Brazil is one of the countries with the largest number of plant species in the world.Among the 37 biodiversity hotspots on Planet Earth, according to Conservation International, two are in Brazil: the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
We invite you to get to know the general distribution patterns of the flora of these biomes in this online course.
Planet Earth has 268,600 species of angiosperms (plants that produce flowers) described.
In Brazil, in the last survey conducted in 2015, there were 32,086 native species (12% of the world flora of angiosperms).
Of this total of Brazilian flora, 15,001 species occur in the Atlantic Forest (almost half of all Brazilian flora) and of these species, 7,432 species are ENDEMIC of the Atlantic Forest.
